Yoga means “to unite”, the bringing together of the mind, body, and spirit. While modern practice is often seen as purely physical, at Abuelitas, we honor it as a holistic journey. Yoga classes (group and private) are suitable for everyone, whatever your ability. In group classes, modifications will be offered so that classes are adaptable to best suit you. With regular practice, yoga can improve both mental and physical wellbeing as well as develop your balance, strength, flexibility and mobility.
Classes will typically start with stillness and breath practice before gently warming up the body. Depending on the class, we will then move into dynamic movements or slower, longer holds. Classes close with stillness and reflection/meditation.
Wear something you are comfortable moving in (this can be something tight like leggings, or something loose and baggy). We encourage everyone to take their socks off for practice, but if you prefer to keep them on, grippy sock help you from slipping.
The studio space will have all the equipment you need (mats, yoga blocks, blankets, straps) but you are welcome to bring your own mat if you prefer. Water is available.
